It is a strange fact that, although women, and men for that matter are getting larger in the West, fashion designers still cater for teenage-style swimsuits rather than plus size bikinis, which are needed by far more women. OK, the argument may go that by showing beach belle models larger women are being encouraged to slim down, but it is just not true. It has not reduced the demand for fashionable plus size bikinis.

The woman who is looking for a bikini cup D has several choices to make depending on what she wants to achieve. The first choice is whether she wants support or to look bigger.

Support - if she is looking for support then the four choices are banded halter tops; perfect fit bra tops; sport tops and underwire tops.

Banded halter tops offer very good support and protection from fall-out for bikini cup D women. So much so that most women can safely play beach volley ball in them. The banded halter top is probably the preferred sexy bikini top for younger women with a bikini cup D bust.

Sports tops are very similar to a normal bra in function, but offer massive support over the shoulders and around the back. Most women find that these designs flatter while being very comfortable.

The underwired bikini cup D offers the best support and lift of the four styles and so could be the only women's plus option. They are made of an inner soft, comfortable layer which will not rub as you move and a tougher outer framework which is disguised with normal swimwear fabric. This normally has a strong conventional, bra-like clasp.

Size increase - if you are looking for a size boost, then there are also four types, namely, padded bandeau tops; enhancer bra tops; perfect fit bra tops and triangle tops.

The bandeau is strapless and is ideal for sun bathing. It has a moulded cup and provides a certain amount of support and lateral protection. It is recommended for mild activity only as a large bust can still fall out of a bandeau bikini top.

A variation of the bandeau which might appeal to a lot of women is a version of the halter tankini tops. It has material sewn onto the bandeau top which hangs down to the top of the legs in the front and a little higher in the back.

The triangle top is by far the flimsiest of the sexy bikinis suitable for cup D. It is open at the sides which is why many people consider them the sexiest of all bikini cup D tops.

They provide very little side support, so vigorous activity in a triangle top for a large woman would almost certainly mean revealing moments. The triangle top is good for sun bathing or sitting in a Jacuzzi, but definitely not for playing games on a public beach.

The only bikini cup D top to be mentioned in both sections is the perfect fit bra top and the enhanced (padded) variation of swim wear. This looks like a pretty version of a bra that you would wear to work any day of the week.

It fits the breast snugly top, front, bottom and sides and so is not particularly revealing. This bikini cup D variation can be underwired or not or just slightly so.
