Swimwear for Muslim Women
One’s personal choice of swimwear varies from person to person. However, not all cultures allow most of the
commonly available swimsuits which offer little cover for the body and hair. Islam is a religion which prohibits
Muslim women from wearing clothes which either display parts of their body or highlight them.
Swimwear for Muslim Women
Islam traditionally places an emphasis on modest dress and, in fact, modesty in every aspect of life. In most of
the Western societies, there are no separate pools or beaches for women. Following the teachings of Islam, Muslim
women are required to dress modestly. Therefore, swimwear for Muslim women needs to be specially designed keeping
in view the teachings of Islam.
Muslim women prefer three-piece swimwear rather than one or two piece. Three-piece swimwear typically includes a
head cover too. Swimsuits with hair covers are designed to ensure modesty along with style and quality. The
clothing which is chosen does not absorb much water to keep it light in weight. It dries quickly. Safety, comfort
and ease are kept in mind while designing swimwear for Muslim women.
Islam does not allow women to show their body to others - except the face, hands, and feet. Typical swimwear is
a long skirt with scarf, full sleeves and long trousers. Such swim suits for Muslim women are recognized as sharia
swimsuits which protect women from what are called ‘gossiping eyes’.
It is a general preference for Muslim women to wear nylon, polyester and Lycra materials because they allow easy
movement in water. Such materials are highly recommended for Muslim women because they allow flexible movement of
the body in water and do not stick to the body when the lady comes out of the water.
It is becoming very common to wear such specially designed suits for swimming. The variety is also increasing
and the women of moderately Muslim countries particularly prefer to buy such swimwear. Professional models and
renowned women endorse the various brands of swimwear.
Due to innovation in the way swimwear is designed for Muslim women, nobody can stop Muslim women from fulfilling
their desire to swim while observing religious restrictions. The increasing demand for such swimsuits by
religiously observant women has triggered the growth of the ladies swimwear industry.
Swimwear for Muslim women is designed keeping in view the values of Islam while enhancing their lifestyle at the
same time. Following the teachings of The Quran, limited exposure of the body by such costumes does not limit the
athletic performance of women. Women get protection from Ultra Violet rays due to limited exposure.
Women with fuller figures also prefer to buy such costumes which
provide maximum coverage to the body. Islam does not prohibit woman from keeping herself updated with the
current fashion while not crossing the limits specified.
As a Muslim woman, you must keep two basic things in your mind while choosing swimwear i.e. cut and
material.
1. Cut: It is the most important criteria when choosing your Muslim swimwear. The cut of your swimming costume
can formulate or destroy the steadiness and proportion of your body.
2. Material: The material of your selected swimwear should be light in weight, excellent in stretch and
recovery, water repellent, and quick to dry.
